Filmed in 12 countries and 9 languages Monday night’s (7 pm) Jihad for Love takes the somewhat paradoxical notion of Islamic gays and examines their real-life experiences. It also reclaims the contentious term Jihad, which, contrary to the usual connotations of fundmentalist war-mongering actually means something closer to “inner struggle” or “to strive in the path of God.”
I Dreamt Under the Water at 9 pm turns toward inward struggles as bisexual protagonist Antonin (Hubert Benhamdine) as he fumbles toward love. Unfortunately, his yearnings seem to settle on drug-addicts and damaged men and women, forcing him into his own degrading situations.
