Events for the toughie and the nancy

OBT’s French Program

I thoroughly enjoy Portland’s many (sometimes competing) dance parties, drag shows and live music, but sometimes you just need other kinds of events for a diverse company of queer folks. This weekend has 2 very different strokes for different folks.

Tomorrow sees Oregon Ballet Theatre’s first OBT-Q night especially for our crew. Their much lauded “French Program” is the currently running show that will go on at 7:30 p.m. at the Keller Auditorium (222 SW Clay) followed by a “Q Lounge” toast and reception with company members. Call 503.2.BALLET for tickets. You can even get a 15% discount when you use the obtq code. Maybe it will help offset the “queer tax” I referenced yesterday. Not sure if you have to show your homo-card for proof…

For the more gruff among us, Sunday has a special treat. B-side (632 E Burnside) hosts a semi-regular ladies-only arm-wrestling tourney. The contest is single elimination with a $5 entrance fee. Donations are also accepted and all donations matched by the B-Side, total amount matched by Fantasy for adults only, proceeds go to Planned Parenthood. Prizes have also been donated by Fantasy. (Making the connection between Fantasy and PP is getting rather sticky in my head…wait…ew…)

But even without sex toys the afternoon is bound to be table slamming fun. Rumor is the bar fills up fast for this event so get there well before Gay Standard Time. Sign up begins at 5 p.m.
