PLGFF Saturday night previews and closing gala

The last Saturday of a queer film fest has got to be a riling climax. If the films haven’t gotten you hot and bothered yet the closing gala is sure to bring the week to a close in a frenzy of discussion, drinking and dancing. Held at the lovely and friendly 3 room Crush (1400 SE Morrison) you can exercise your inner film geek and still be able to exercise your booty at nearby Gaycation.

But you came for the film. So here we go.

‘Out at the Wedding’

Saturday starts slightly earlier than the rest of the week with Out at the Wedding at 6p. Tangentially gay at best this comedy of errors looks like it could be mildly endearing or just and overlong set of confusing circumstances. Southern belle Alex has a bi-racial boyfriend that she hasn’t introduced to her family. So when her sister announces her wedding Alex opts to go with her gay bff Jonathan. Then someone thinks she’s gay and I’m sure it all comes crashing down to inevitably reveal the truth. Oh boy what a farce! Eh, let’s get back to the sexy gay flicks…

The 8p hour brings potentially heart-wrenching Shelter. Zach is a young adult trapped in a dead end job taking care of his nephew while his sister cavorts with an endless string of gentlemen. When his best friend’s brother comes into town he helps Zach reimagine where his life is heading and where he wants to go. I’m assuming there is some sort of romance along with the deepening friendship and desire to reevaluate his life but it seems unclear. Even so, we’re bound to see some pecs and biceps as the boys surf and skateboard their way through their late teen angst.
