In Other Words feminist bookstore celebrates its sweet 16

IOW16Our sweet and saucy sister in literature In Other Words, one of that few remaining feminist bookstores in the country, has survived and thrived in Portland for the past 16 years. This Thursday it’s time to celebrate that fact with their Freaky, fancy sweet 16 birthday party.

The Q Center (4115 N Mississippi) celebration goes from 6:30 to 10 and features some of Portland’s most celebrated ladies of lit. Hosted by the queen of Dirty Queer, Sossity Chiricuzio, the night spotlights authors Hope Hitchcock and Ariel Gore, most recently celebrated for the recent Portland Queer release.

There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar in the lounge, with live music provided by This Charming Man, a Smith’s cover band, as well as Marisa Anderson.  The evening will also include a silent and live auction featuring art from local artists and gift packages from Portland businesses.  This event will also be ASL interpreted. So by the time the DJ action starts at 9 you will be artistically and nutritionally satiated enough to bust a move with Yurr Mom. Seriously, that’s the DJs name. I swear.
