Oregon Attorney General John Kroger just released a report today proclaiming that there is not suffucient evidence to pursue any criminal charges against Mayor Sam Adams (PDF).

“We have concluded that there is no evidence to charge, let alone convict, Adams with illegal sexual contact with a minor,” according to Kroger’s investigation.

In addition, the report found no evidence that Adams’ 2008 mayoral campaign violated the law when Adams denied having sexual relations with the young man.

The Oregon Attorney General has announced a noon press conference today  at the State Capitol to take questions about his investigation into Adams’ affair with former legislative intern Beau Breedlove. More information should be available then.

Update

Adams responds to the news. From The Oregonian:

“The Attorney General’s office released the results of its five-month investigation today, clearing me of wrong-doing.

“I made mistakes in my personal life that led to this investigation. As a result, the city I love was put through an ordeal. I am gratified the investigation has been completed, and I want to reiterate that I am sorry.

“I want to thank Portlanders for their support and understanding. I want to also thank my colleagues, the hardworking employees of the City of Portland, and my focused staff for helping to deliver exceptional results over the past five months.

“I will continue to fight to put Portlanders back to work, address the high-school dropout rate, and strategically plan for Portland’s future.
