Friendly House: Third West Coast Affiliate of SAGE

SAGE & Friendly House Combine Efforts

Earlier this month, the Friendly House Director of Services, Mya Chamberlin, spoke at a D.C. summit regarding care for the elderly LGBTQ community. Recently, Friendly House announced that their Gay & Grey program is officially affiliated with SAGE– a service for our LGBTQ elders. SAGE is a national non-profit based out of New York and is the country’s largest organization representing the older LGBTQ community. SAGE offers support with fundraising and building advocacy programs. SAGE has 22 affiliates nationwide; Friendly House is the third on the west coast.

“Being a part of the SAGE network will connect Friendly House and our staff members to leaders in the LGBT aging field from different parts of the country. After ten years of struggle to develop, grow and sustain this program, we feel like we are finally playing with the big boys. All of a sudden, things are happening fast, and we are proud to be on the front edge of the wave. Our Gay & Grey participants deserve it too – they’ve been working right alongside with us to get to this place,” Stated Friendly House Executive Director Vaune Albanese.

It has been the goal of Friendly House for well over a year, to become an affiliation with SAGE. Congratulations Portland, for making it happen!
