Lots of excitement has been accompanying new Portland supergroup Wild Flag since their formation last Summer. The quartet featuring Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, Helium’s Mary Timony and The Minders Rebecca Cole been playing sold out shows locally and outside of the area sporadically in the precious few months of their existence. They are also slated to play at SXSW on March 18th.
Now, they’ve made their first single, “Glass Tambourine” available for online listening. A combination of 70s jam rock and 90s indie pop with a healthy dose of grownup 2011 revamping, “Tambourine” is a full and nuanced aural pleasure which you experience for yourself right here below.

The full length debut is due out later this year but they are releasing a teaser single on April 11 (Record Store Day) featuring the tracks “Future Crimes” and “Glass Tambourine.”
Spoon frontman Britt Daniel produced both “Glass Tambourine” and “Future Crimes.” Chris Woodhouse is on board to produce WILD FLAG’s yet-to-be-named full-length album, due out in early fall.
” ‘Glass Tambourine’ is a song that exemplifies a lot of why I love being in Wild Flag,” Brownstein says. “It starts off as a warped pop song and then veers into something more psychedelic. There are melodies, harmonies and then a fair amount of chaos. For this very reason, it’s one of our favorite songs to play live. There is an improvisational aspect at the end, and we rarely know what’s going to happen. We’ll re-record both the songs off this 7-inch for our full-length album and they’ll have more of a live feel, which is why we chose to work with Chris.”
