Are you in the mood for some local(ish) queer poetry? Join fellow queer poetry enthusiasts at the Q Center! Recently local queer poet Aleks Stefanova has out together a reoccurring night of queer poetry – this month, the featured artist is Ela Barton from Seattle. More info and some video under the cut!
Join us for a night of queer poetry with one of Seattle’s favorite queer poets Ela Barton. Ela is a poet, artist, community member, and show host who has performed in most of the Pacific Northwest from Vancouver B.C. to Portland, OR. She is the 2007 Bainbridge Island Annual Poetry Slam Champion, placed 23 out of 72 in 2008 at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in Detroit, MI (her first National competition), and a two-time finalist of the Seattle Grand Slam. Currently, she is one of the revolving hosts of Seattle’s Longest Running Weekly Show, the Seattle Poetry Slam, and has just started teaching at Bent: A Queer Writing Institute.
The Q Poetry event will have an open mic for everyone who would like to get up on the stage and share their work with the PDX audience. So, bring some of your poetry with your amazing self and sign up for it! Or even better, if you feel like you’re up for the challenge sign up for our Haiku Death Match where poets will battle to win $50 with their awesome haiku poem!
Q Poetry is a virtual poetry network for poets and fans geared mainly towards the queer poet community and can be found on q-poetry.ning.com
To help us develop this event into a monthly tradition we are asking for a $5 suggested donation at the door.
