BRO launches survey to improve health care for trans Oregonians

Trans folks need healthcare too!

Trans folks need healthcare too!

Basic Rights Oregon has launched a survey of trans, genderqueer and gender non-conforming Oregonians who have experienced health care discrimination.

According to BRO, “All too frequently, trans Oregonians are denied insurance coverage of health care solely because of their gender identity.  Working together, we can bring an end to discrimination and dramatically improve the experience of trans Oregonians accessing care. ”

BRO states:

“The experiences gathered will help us enforce the health equity laws on the books, and work to improve health policies impacting trans Oregonians.  This survey can help individuals get the medical care they need, and help trans communities as a whole access equal medical care…We recognize that surveys are frequently sent out to trans communities, and little follow-up and support is offered in return.  Our intent here is to identify ways in which insurance laws are being violated, and ensure that those laws are fully enforced.  If you have any other questions about the survey, feel free to contact Aubrey directly at 503-222-6151 x109.”

How you can get involved:

1. Fill out the survey.  You can find it online at http://bit.ly/HCsurvey
2. Send the survey along to your networks.  The more surveys we gather, the greater our ability to effect change.   Send the survey along to any email lists, community groups, and individuals you see fit!
