Amanda Simpson is being called the first America’s first openly transgender presidential appointee in the the job she starts Tuesday as the Senior Technical Advisor in U.S. Commerce Department.
Reluctant to be the first, Simpson knew there would be issues, despite her exceptional qualifications for the job. And indeed, anti-gay leader Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth, asked, “Is there going to be a transgender quota now in the Obama administration? “How far does this politics of gay and transgender activism go? Clearly this is an administration that is pandering to the gay lobby.”
In a clip from the Rachel Maddow Show (below) she quotes Focus on the Family as saying:
…the appointment of a male-to-female ‘transgender’ activist to a high level Commerce Department [appears] to be payback for [President Obama’s] far-left base for their political support.
Instead is a welcome chance for a qualified individual not to be held back by social taboo. I applaud Obama for being the first president of appoint and open trans individual. However, she is actually not the first trans person to serve. The National Center for Transgender Equality claims there is already a transman in the Labor Department.
Yay for infiltration!
