Kings For a Cause, is an National Drag Event created by the Emeritus Mister King of the Desert USofA MI, Anson Reign, of Phoenix, Arizona that brings together Drag King troupes all over the country in a one of a kind fundraising event August 28th, 29th, and 30th. Now Portland is finally in on the action this Friday the 28th at the Hawthorne Theater (3862 SE Hawthorne Blvd).
This full-length show will bring together some of our community’s top Drag King names, River City Riders, Pheonix Da Hottie and Bruce TD King (Vancouver’s Mr. Gay Pride 2008), to raise awareness and funds for two biggie civil rights organizations. Proceeds are divided between the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign. And while I have never been a huge HRC fan, especially since they supported a non-trans-inclusive ENDA, the NGLTF is a strong political ally.
The official after-party will take place at the Egyptian Club (3701 SE Division) promises more performances, as well as lots of raffle prizes at midnight.
