Athens Boys Choir, Anaturale at SMYRC

In the bar-fueled smokey music venue culture that is Portland all ages shows are increasingly rare. As someone who lived and breathed music while living the PDX high school dream I find this very sad. However, you can’t complain about the absolute radness that is the Sexual Minority Youth Recreation Center (SMYRC), which opened just as I left the nest.

This Friday crazy southern, gender-deviant, multimedia, spoken-word homo-hoppers Athens Boys Choir and Anaturale take up residence in the totally tricked out SMYRC space to put on an all ages show refreshingly smoke and alcohol free and open to all. Come revel in the crash pad you wish had been yours when you were a baby dyke or a wee gayling.

At $5 bucks sliding scale and free if you’re under 23 you can’t beat the price. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm at SMYRC (2100 SE Belmont St). And to give you a little feel of just how Athens Boys Choir rolls, I’ve included his fabulous newly released music video for “Fagette,” directed by former Portlander Ali Cotterill (it’s a tad NSFW).
