In January of 2006, a group of community leaders and neighbors came together to organize the first Portland Latino Gay Pride Celebration. The volunteer planning committee partnered with El Hispanic Newspaper and the Jupiter Hotel to create an event that recognized the talents and contributions of gay Latinos and Latinas and to celebrate Latino Culture and GLBTQ Pride in our community. With a proclamation by Portland Mayor Tom Potter and Multnomah County Commissioner Maria Rojo de Steffey, a new community tradition was established.
They say, “third time’s a charm,” and Portland Latino Gay Pride plans to deliver. The one-day celebration has been expanded to four days of special events and activities, June 5th – 8th. This year’s theme, ¡Papis y Chicas!, ensures there is something for everyone.
