Along with rights comes responsibility (so so true, point in case being this lovely blog I keep, which hasnt been updated in nearly a week). This was the lesson that 3 lesbian dads learned in California today when the Supreme Court ruled that partners who have kids together and then split up must pay child support no matter the genders of the parents. The implications of this have me applauding: more custodial rights in general for non-birth parents, safer mothers, happier kids, and a sense of equality in responsibility. However, I found a tidbit near the bottom an interesting point. One of the women states that part of her happiness in the decision is that she may be able to get off welfare now. Not that it calls into question my support of such a ruling, but it does call into question the motives of an ever changing, ever shaky, court and government.
