I’m not exactly sure what Byron is trying to say with this week’s Queer Window column but if it’s more about irreverence and only slightly social commentary I’m all for it. It’s a pretty hilarious read. And I really really want to see the float for the Straight Florists/Dancers/Hairdressers…
I wonder if any of these people notice that no one cares enough to even comment on this.
The only reason I come here is to get a laugh. There were some very compelling arguments and exchanges here but I noticed that a lot were deleted because I can’t find them here anymore! I don’t think people like the censorship in this blog.
Just to let you know I do not delete any comments. If the site moderators are alerted to an inappropriate comment and they deem it violates our user agreement they will delete it but the decision is not up to me.
This is absolutely disgusting. Wow our standards for decency and morality have gone down the toilet, with these gays openely celebrating in our street. Now I am not saying it should be illegal or anything like that, but it just seems like this is not a good change for our children to grow up in. btw i’m a liberal democrat
Gay Pride Parade = Portland’s shame.
No surprise that the Oregonian deems it to be the most important thing happening in the world this weekend.
I grew up in Portland and I agree with some of these comments. People here use to have standards in morality and public conduct. No more. It’s a shame the local homosexual community use words like “pride” in place of using phrases like, “shoving our beliefs down your throats”, to mask their bitter disdain for mainstream society. When gays use to keep their behaviors to themselves and their communtiy, that was all fine and no one really cared. Now it’s blatant hate against against the traditional family and heterosexuals in general. It’s bad Karma.
xtralarge,
FYI: The Oregonian and OregonLive.com are separate companies. I’m not sure where you read the disclaimer either said this was the most important thing happening this weekend. But judging by the sheer number of participants in Pride Fest, I’d say quite a few people have a vested interest.
Bad Karma is hating someone for being different than yourself.
Yeah, why doesn’t Portland’s gay and lesbian community show some decency, like the sailors during fleet week.
People not being ashamed for being who they are? Really, what IS this city coming to?
It’s a group of people getting together to support and celebrate each other, nothing more, nothing less. It’s no different than the parades held by Puerto Ricans, Italians, Irish, Germans, ect. No one is having anything showed down their throat, though that comment might have been more Freudian than on would care to admit.
