Portland may not be able to claim the household name designers like Marc Jacobs or Isaac Mizrahi, but we have a fine set of conscientious trend-setters. These up-and-comers will put their creations to the catwalk for a good cause this Friday May 16th at the Wonder Ballroom (128 NE Russell St.) at the the Third Annual Strut.
Organizer and designer Adam Arnold was already causing disturbances with his wild wardrobe choices when, as a fourth grader, he was sent home for wearing velvet knickers to school. Now he brings Portland the hottest fashion show of the year, a benefit for Basic Rights Oregon. DJ Barrett Paul will be spinning throughout the evening, Rudy’s Barbershop will be offering free haircuts, and the fabulous Bolivia Carmichaels will host the Red Carpet.
But the real draw are the designers who include such gems as the retro swimwear stylings of Popina, the casually elegant art pieces of Magali Corzo and the “Keep Portland Weird” professionalism of Adam Arnold. Best of all, Under U 4 Men is bound to have hunks brazenly pushing the boundaries of their colorful skivvies.
Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door, or $75 VIP, which includes reserved seating, VIP cocktail service and gift bag.
CORRECTION: Although Adam Arnold still deserves kudos for being a brassy elementary school kid I was incorrect about his involvement with the organization of Strut. Jonny Shultz of Q6 Model & Artist Management produced the show and BRO’s Samantha Swaim was the event manager. I heartily apologize for the error.
