Shame on me for not knowing that today was National Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day that commemorates those who we’ve lost due to anti-trans violence. Perhaps a good way to remember our fallen family is by a vigil, followed by the thoughtful and provocative Athens Boys Choir, a spoken word and performance troupe.
From Just Out:
Spoken words artist Athens Boys Choir uses engaging wordplay, razor-sharp wit and hip-hop rhythms to spread “the good word,” throwing down hard-hitting poetry that deals with gender, politics, love and sex at the Portland State University Multicultural Center in Room 228 of Smith Memorial Student Union. Preceded by a Trans Awareness Month candlelight vigil in the PSU Park Blocks. (6-6:30 pm vigil, Southwest Park Avenue and Montgomery Street. 7-8 pm performance, 1825 SW Broadway.)
