Remember Leisha Hailey? Well, of course you do, she plays a character called Alice on a little known lesbian show called the L Word. But what I meant was, do you remember when she used to play music? She was that adorable little guitar-wielding sweet side of riot grrl with the bubblegum pink hair from The Murmurs. Yeah, that was her!
Now Leisha again has her fingers on the strings with her newest project, Uh Huh Her. Her Los Angeles-induced fame has polished her sound significantly but I can still see a glimmer of Hailey’s punk rock spirit embedded in the new sound. She’s just grown. That cute voice that we heard in the quintessential 90s queer youth movie All Over Me (which I like to reference as a fairly good representation of my experiences, albeit a bit more traumatic) has turned, instead, to smooth and ethereal.
But sellout or grownup, you can decide for yourself tomorrow when they appear at Dante’s (1 SW 3rd Avenue). It’s too bad it’s a 21+ show as I’m sure the baby dykes would love to drool over their blonde TV heartthrob and her brunette sidekick. They’re also probably more likely to be able to stay awake for the show’s 10p start time. Oh well…
I am SO going. Can’t wait!
Wind in yer hair good!
To Alley Hector,
For the record, Uh Huh Her consists of Leisha Hailey (Not Alice from The L Word, that girl from the Murmurs or that “blonde TV heartthob” as you describe her), and Camila Gray ( who has quite a resume in her own right coming into this group, whom you only mentioned as Leisha’s “brunette sidekick”). Camila happens to be an equal partner in the band. I’m sure she’d be pretty mad if she read this. Leisha too. I’m sure Clea Duvall will be happy to know that you gave her credit for taking the picture. Guess that’s because she’s famous as you stated in the caption… I know this is only a small blurb that not too many people will see, but in the future, concentrate on sensible/responsible reporting instead of trying to sound cute.
