New tough-as-nails chick flick The Runaways tells the story of Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. It’s already playing in theaters across the country, but PDX will have a special “premiere” to raise money for the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls Monday the 5th at the Hollywood Theater (4122 NE Sandy).
But besides any altruistic intentions you may or may not have, the biggest draw Monday night will be the appearance of Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie. The legendary foxy cherry bomb will be on hand for a Q&A session to fulfill all your quasi-lesbo rock’n’roll fantasies.
And if that’s just not enough of the ladies, you must enter the raffle which includes prizes such as movie swag, autographed items from The Runaways and tickets to Joan Jett’s upcoming concert at Chinook Winds with a meet and greet!
Unfortunately the rated R nature of the film makes bard girls of the same age as the original Runaways from attending, but it also makes it a bit more prurient and exciting. Get a parent to take you or furtively get the DVD from Netflix because, girls, these women are your ancestors of girl rock.
