I haven’t really been a big folk fan since my tween years although I suppose an Indigo Girls strum around a campfire once in awhile is nice. But I know many of you folks are and the singer/songwriter stylings of Melissa Ferrick are skilled and legendary among the lezzies. And we Portlanders get 2 chances to see her tonight and tomorrow at the Doug Fir. Perhaps even more exciting, however is her opener, Erin McKeown. In their preview of the 2 show bonanza, The Oregonian describes her as having “… a distinct folk tinge to her music, but she stretches far beyond those limits…” She even has a degree in Ethnomusicology from Brown which could add some very different nuances to an already skilled folk, jazz, rock base.
