Mark your calendars for a couple of fun events that will help support Basic Rights Oregon and Pride NW.
THURSDAY MARCH 15TH:
A night at the theatre to benefit Basic Rights Oregon!
Bag & Baggage Productions, Hillsboro’s resident professional theatre, is proud to partner with Basic Rights Oregon for an evening of provocative Shakespeare! Join us on Thursday, March 15th at 7:30pm at the beautiful Venetian Theatre (253 East Main Street) in downtown Hillsboro for a thrilling, exciting new production of Joe Calarco’s “Shakespeare’s R&J” $5 from every ticket purchased will be donated back to Basic Rights Oregon!
This adaptation tells the tale of four students living in a conservative boarding school who engage in a clandestine reading of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet they find hidden under the floorboards of the chapel. Their school has banned Shakespeare for fear it will “enflame the passions” and the young men suddenly find themselves plunged into this passionate and rebellious story, living out their own fears, joys, and youthful awakenings right alongside Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers.
More information and tickets are available online at www.bagnbaggage.org or by calling the Venetian Theatre box office at 503-345-9590.

The evening will focus on Pride Northwest’s importance to the LGBT community, as well as our relationship with the City and Pacific Northwest. The LGBTQ community is a significant and vital part of the Portland/Vancouver region, and Pride Northwest is using this opportunity to connect our community to the region’s important decision-makers.. In that spirit, Mayor Sam Adams will open our discussion and introduce the Portland Mayoral candidates Jefferson Smith, Charlie Hales, and Eileen Brady, for a unique opportunity to meet and interact with LGBT community and business leaders, and discuss our issues and priorities, through one-on-one conversations. Tickets are $75 and 2 tickets are just $100. Amenities will include a wine & beer bar and a delicious assortment of light appetizers.
