Portlanders gay and straight alike are fond of their food. They’re also fond of their politics so what better way to combine those joys than to eat your way to a better world for gay, lesbian and transgender rights.
The 12th Annual Bites for Rights event is Thursday, June 23rd! For one day only, fair-minded restaurants, coffeehouses, bakeries, bars and food carts across the state will donate a portion of their proceeds to Basic Rights Oregon. Bites for Rights is a fundraising event that supports Basic Rights Oregon’s work to ensure equality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Oregonians.
Equality advocates across the country look to Basic Rights Oregon’s Transgender Justice, Racial Justice and Marriage Equality Campaigns for inspiration on how to run ground-breaking, effective programs. All eyes are on Oregon, because we’re poised to become the first state to win the freedom to marry by a vote of the people—and this could happen as early as 2012.
Thursday, June 23rd, 2011 is your opportunity to bite down on inequality and dine out for rights! Bites for Rights is a day-long event—so go out for coffee, brunch, drinks, dinner and dessert to show your support for LGBT equality in Oregon. All purchases will support Basic Rights Oregon’s efforts for fairness. Discover like-minded establishments and declare your love for equality by dining out all day long!
