Amy Ray and her post-punk followers at Wonder Ballroom

Amy Ray

Legendary lower-voiced half of the iconic lesbian folk duo, the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray has truly branched out. Blending the sincerity and skill of IG with the anger and energy of post-riot-grrl collaborators such as Kaia Wilson and Melissa York (of Team Dresch, The Butchies etc).

Promoting her newest release, “Didn’t It Feel Kinder,” Ray will unassumingly, but vehemently, take the stage tomorrow night, Tuesday the 3rd, at the Wonder Ballroom (128 NE Russell St).

Joining her will be Arizona, and openers Packer, featuring Kaia Wilson, Erase Errata’s Jenny Hoyston and the rock-harder-and-with-longer-hair metal goddess Lauren K Newman (LKN).

In a night that is both generation- and genre-spanning, expect a truly diverse show filled with meaning and complex guitar arpeggios. Music geeks, flannel-glad dykes and sharp-tongued, zine-writing riot hipsters alike will be able to not only recognize their piece of each sound-filled pie but can revel in how this compilation of ladies has successfully melded and transformed the music into something both more enduring and delightfully dynamic.

I’m seeing Amy Ray tonight in Seattle!!!! I *heart* her…she’s always been my favorite of the IGs.

Last time I saw her perform was at the Crystal Ballroom (also with LNK, which was weird because I had just stopped dating Lauren’s ex)… but I digress. I can’t wait!!
