Call out to performers for new queer talent show ‘Homomentum’

homomentumPants-Off Productions is launching our next project: Homomentum: a monthly queer cabaret. The show is a bastard offspring of Kick/Ball/Change and Homos Got Talent, and we would love to encourage a diversity of performers, with a focus in dance, burlesque & performance art, to be a part of this gay new venture! Homomentum will take over the E-room (3701 SE Division) every 2nd Saturday of the month starting Oct. 10th. Each month will have a different theme, which we hope will inspire creativity! Below are the themes and a little explanation of what we have in mind (but we want to empower performers to put their own spin on it.)

Gender-bender recap and photos

rcr

The River City Riders

A great way to kick off Pride, last night’s Gender Bender at the E Room had all the right trappings. There were various forms of drag and performance, fund-raising and drama. Oh, and some really amazing outfits that you can check out in our extensive Gender Bender photo gallery.

Out Like That lady party 2009 – Get Out!

getoutposterThe largest lezzie party of the year gets a writeup in Just Out:

Being more a fan of the intimate, cramped party than big blowouts, I almost didn’t attend the inaugural Out Like That Productions Pride celebration last year. That would have been a mistake. And though I’m disappointed the sophomore bash won’t be in the balmy confines of the Jupiter Hotel courtyard, the Mt. Tabor Theater’s antique charms are sure to win me over when Get Out! Pride 2009 happens Saturday, June 13.

Thursday: Gender Bender Variety Show @ The E Room

Gender Bender @ The E-Room, Portland, Oregon

Check out the amazing stack of queer performers lined up for Gender Bender @ The E-Room!

This Thursday the yearly spectacle of the Gender Bender Variety Show will be coming to the E-Room! It looks like a spectacle not to be missed. The E Room is usually pretty insular, by this time they have cast a wide net to get  some of the best most innovative queer performers that run the gamut from traditional drag to post-queer performance art to the E Room! It’s going to be hot, queer, and amazing, and for a good cause!

weekend’s almost over…but one big event yet to come!

And it’s time for a little half time recap. (well, technically a 2/3rds time recap, but who cares, right?) It’s been a busy few days indeed!

Kick / Ball / Change @ The Someday Lounge

Kick / Ball / Change @ The Someday Lounge

Thursday saw me hit RedCap for a little update on RuPaul’s drag race, which I have been checking in with since my first review, which you can find here. The Portland edition doesn’t have eliminations, so all the girls were still in the race-and had the task of choreographing a dance number to RuPaul’s own “Supermodel” (yes that super gay dance number from the early 90’s). Overall, both teams did well, but Team Alexis sadly took a wrong turn on the costume front, picking lavender onesies that were not flattering at all. Also, their choreo was messy. I had expected more from Alexis. Team Kelly stole the Lipsynch For Your Life trophy with excellent dresses, makeup, and teamwork. Their choreo was sometimes a little flat, but overall well done. Sable Scities is most definitely the strongest dancer in the group, and stands a strong chance of walking away with the prize of being the Northwest’ Fiercest Drag Queen if she can keep up the pace. A great show, with the usual witty banter between Poison Waters and Byron Beck. Sadly, Isiah from Burlesquire should stick to what he does best (and he really does do it very well) – Dancing. Being a commentator or a judge is not your strong point, Isiah.
