Leisha Hailey and girlfriend kicked off Southwest airlines for kissing

Don't mess with journalist Alice Pieszecki…I mean actress and musician Leisha Hailey

I may get disappointed, but I’m never terribly shocked, when discrimination happens. What is a little more surprising is when it happens, very publicly, to the famous, influential, beautiful. But it did happen when actress and musician Leisha Hailey was kicked off a Southwest airlines flight for kissing her girlfriend then raising a fuss when asked to […]

L word sneak peek

A show often criticized for its lack of butch characters returns January 8th with a tough techie. Punk rocker Daniela Sea, who joins the cast this season, will play an adorable mid-western butchie who falls for flighty Jenny and takes a gender journey. Nice to see a return to the topic of gender-queerism, especially after not only completely abandoning the most interesting storyline of last season, but of never addressing any of the issues Ivan faced as a transgendered person. Sea is also the only cast member to join Leisha Hailey in publicly acknowledging an alternative sexual orientation. Are we seeing changes to the oh-so-LA version of Lesbianville? Well, I wouldnt hold my breath.
As with a lot in life that is unfair, is our susceptibility to HIV just by chance? Well, even if those with weaker Langerhans cells might have a harder time fighting off HIV, it also means scientists can work with these cells toward some sort of vaccine/cure/prevention-of-some-sort. And even if the cure for AIDS is a long way off I’m not too proud to be hopeful when I hear about a breakthrough such as this. […]

I’ve had it in my head for awhile now that I want to start a podcast. I want you to take qPDX with you wherever you go, on your iPod on the bus, whatever.

Maybe I just like the sound of my own voice (metaphorically) but Lyska and […]

The ghost of Portland Pride’s past

Everyone but me, Mr. Blue, in our 2007 rainbow TeamAwesome parade contingent with teenager girl roller skating banner bearers

I was looking for some pictures of Portland Pride of yesteryear and realized that I haven’t been doing this for 4 years but 6! And I’m talking about covering Pride, not just attending it. That’s been an even longer road…shoot…17 years. Sweet Jesus. It must be the nostalgic Cancer in […]

Pride 2009 in review

Sam Adams' bike contingent at Pride 2009

Now that we are all finally recovered from our hangovers it’s time to reflect on the weekend. It was a wild success that saw the gorgeous Miss Sabel Scities win Portland’s Drag Race, 115 floats, thousands of attendees, very few protesters and about a million parties.

Below are my weekend highlights but we really want to hear yours, so comment below!

Pride celebration Main and Cafe Stage schedules

Uh Huh Her

There’s a million and 1 Pride related parties and events but the Waterfront Village celebration itself sports some talented performers, and all at donation prices. And now that you can carry your beer throughout the booths in the lovely lighthearted PDX sunshine, it might be hard to pull yourself away.

Here are a few acts that make our hit list followed by a complete lineup:
