Following our Femme2006, 2008, and 2010 conferences in San Francisco, Chicago, and Oakland, where hundreds of femmes and allies gathered for workshops, panels, films, visual art galleries, and performances, we again invite femmes of all kinds and their allies to continue the conversation by participating in Femme 2012 as presenters and participants.We are invested in having Femme2012 continue to reflect the diversity and complexity of femme gender, identity, and contributions. We hope for this conference to be a community-building event, as well as an exploration and celebration of what it means to build and live queer femme identities. November is Transgender Awareness Month so the community […]   A Day with HIV in America 2010 submission This September 21st is the 2nd annual Day with HIV in America, and they are looking for contributions from you. A project of Positively Aware, a magazine devoted to HIV treatment and wellness, Day with HIV aims to tell the stories of those affected by HIV and AIDS by capturing a collective portrait of those living with the virus. The magazine is inviting people across America to snap a digital photograph at any time over the course of September 21. Participants can record a portrait, time with friends and family at work or play, or any moment in the day that helps the world better understand life with HIV. Photos are to be submitted by September 26 on the A Day with HIV in America web site or emailed to artdirector@tpan.com. The site has pictures from last year as well as photo ideas and tips. We, the editors, are three trans artists who believe art and literature are two of the most vital parts to our world today. At this moment, there is no magazine which brings all transgender, transsexual and gender variant writers and artists to the forefront. We believe it is time to publish such a magazine! The purpose of Bodies of Work is to publish and promote literature and art that celebrates the diverse visions and understandings of the transsexual, transgender and gender-variant international community through language and image. We want to inspire and be inspired by the innovative output of our communities and come together with trans artists of all genres in creative discourse. Whatever gender you are, whether you’re in your 40s or in your teens, whatever punk rock feminism means to you—we want to hear from you. We (Cat Tyc and Sara Marcus) are making an interactive video installation at girlstothefront.com, in conjunction with Sara Marcus’s book about Riot Grrrl, Girls to the Front, that’s coming out this fall. The point isn’t to wax nostalgic—or, at least, not to dwell in nostalgia; it’s to acknowledge and celebrate the countless ways that the legacy of Riot Grrrl is still very much alive in all of our lives.
